Safeguarding Children: Awareness and Action
A Child Protection Raising Awareness & Action course was held at the Welsh Institute of Sport on Tuesday 30th September 2003. Enthusiastic participants successfully attended it from a wide range of clubs and counties in South and West Wales. Participants included coaches, referees and volunteers.
The course focused on identifying good and bad practice scenarios, recognising abuse, and responding to suspicions, allegations and disclosure.
The aim in Squash Wales, is to create a safe environment for children, members, officials and volunteers, and to help to maintain a high standard of professionalism and standard of practice, that can be associated with the sport.
Squash Wales wish to keep these issues high on people’s agendas, where child protection becomes a talking point.
A Safeguarding Children Steering Group has been formed, to help drive these messages positively into the counties, and into the clubs. Squash Wales is building on this foundation by identifying Club Welfare Officers in every junior club.
If you are interested in being your club representative on these issues, then please contact Mike Workman at the Squash Wales office. Your input will be welcomed.
