NEWPORT defeated DAVID LLOYDS at THE GLAMORGAN HEALTH & RACKETS CLUB on SATURDAY 17th APRIL to win the SOUTH WALES PREMIER CUP. Matthew LAWRENCE, Rob SUTHERLAND and Gareth JONES won their rubbers to make the final two matches, in which Dave LOWE beat Nathan DUKE 2-1 and Greg TIPPINGS overcame Ricky DAVIES by the same margin, dead rubbers.


In the first ever SOUTH WALES LEAGUE CUP final SINCLAIR VW GLAMORGAN ran out 5-0 winners over BARRY LEISURE. Rhys OWEN started with a 3-1 win over Brian CLOSE whilst Ben HARDWIDGE had a comfortable 3-0 win over Richard TAILBY to make the match score 2-0. Steve COLARUSSO went on to beat Adam EVANS 3-0 whilst team captain David HOWE overcame a spirited resistance from Craig DAWE to win 3-1. Andrew NEAL completed the whitewash coming back from 0-2 down to gain a 3-2 win over Jamie TTOPHI in what was the best match of the day. BARRY LEISURE fought hard throughout and hard by far the best support from their club who made sure there was an excellent atmosphere for the day’s events.


The LADIES PREMIER CUP final will be played on WEDNESDAY 5th MAY at THE GLAMORGAN CLUB starting at 7.00pm.
